Shark Dive in Downtown Bangkok!

SeaLife Bangkok's aquarium

In 2004, I set the benchmark for Sara’s future birthday gifts with a horse-drawn sleigh ride and an amazing dinner at Bogus Basin in Idaho. I surpassed that in 2018 with a swimming monkey boat ride in Samut Songkhram followed by a seafood dinner at Amphawa Floating Market. This year, I think I raised the bar even higher by taking her to dive with sharks at Sea Life Bangkok’s aquarium!

During the dive, you get up close to sand tiger sharks, blacktip reef sharks, leopard sharks, round ribbontail rays, eagle rays, and more!

One very unique aspect of the dive is getting to interact with the aquarium visitors on the other side of the glass. The kids love to wave at and high-five you! You become part of the show.

Planet Scuba’s Paul Durrell (Popeye), operates the shark diving program and leads the dives. Popeye does a fantastic job. He is very enthusiastic, and his love for the sharks is contagious.

We also met two aquarium employees that made us feel very welcome. You can tell that they love their job and enjoy sharing their knowledge. The first employee we met while waiting to dive. He stopped by to chat and gave us fascinating information on the aquarium and the different animals in the tank.

The other employee that was very helpful and friendly was the photographer. She did a great job and was also very enthusiastic. She made sure that we have many great photos and videos to help remember our dive.

I highly recommend diving at Sea Life Bangkok. The opportunity to dive with so many species is worth the price of admission – it certainly helped me create a very memorable birthday!

Very easy to get to, the large aquarium is in the Siam Paragon Shopping Mall. Pricing is based on diver experience level:

  1. Certified divers with 10 or more dives – 5800 THB / 190 USD.
  2. Certified divers with less than 10 dives or no dives within 1 year – 6400 THB / 210 USD.
  3. No diving certification – 6900 THB / 226 USD.

The price includes one dive, diving equipment, a swimsuit that you get to keep, admission to the aquarium, and a photo/video thumb drive.
